ExtraTainment runner-up at BAFTA Awards Rotterdam, The Netherlands, October 27 2000 PRESS RELEASE EXTRATAINMENT.COM RUNNER-UP AT BAFTA AWARDS Dutch online entertainment company ExtraTainment.com became runner-up at the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards. The award ceremony was held yesterday, October 26, in London. ExtraTainment.com was nominated in the Best Entertainment Website category, which was won by Cartoon Network UK, the British Internet division of Ted Turner’s entertainment conglomerate. ExtraTainment.com shared its runner-up position with OnlineCaroline.com. The jury admitted the choice was a difficult one. It praised ExtraTainment.com for its “all original content” and its “quirky characters and silly games”. Members of the jury included Channel 4’s Sue Walpole, Grant Dean of renowned software house Eidos, Fionnuala Duggan of EMI International and Tim Carrigan of Noho Digital Ltd. Macromedia Vice President Sue Thexton served as the committee’s chairperson. ExtraTainment.com COO Hubert Roth, present at the ceremony, said from London: “It is a great honour to be one of the three nominees selected from such a strong field of contenders from all over the world. We heartily congratulate Cartoon Network UK with winning the award and we are happy to have achieved this runner-up position.” BAFTA (the British Academy of Film and Television Arts) annually awards achievement in three areas: film, television and interactive media.
